This course is intended as an English language course and serves as an introduction for non-English speakers to some of the basic principles and vocabulary relevant to electronics.

What can you learn in this course?

The content of the course serves as either a basic introduction or brief review of some of the fundamental principles of electronics. Along with providing an avenue to better understanding of these principles, the technical vocabulary relevant to the different related areas is highlighted.

There are six main topics:

  • Materials in Electronics
  • p-n Junction
  • Moore's Law
  • Manufacturing

For each topic there is:

  • An introductory animation
  • A list of relevant nouns with exercises
  • A list of relevant verbs with exercises
  • A grammar principle with exercises
  • A related reading comprehension
  • An interactive activity

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Eric Koenig teaches Technical English at the Technische Hochschule Nürnberg Georg Simon Ohm.

Prof. Dr. Katherine Guertler teaches English and Intercultural Communication at the Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule Regensburg.

Target group

The course is designed for undergraduate engineering students who would like to improve their abilities to communicate in English on electronics-related subjects.
