In this German course you will learn how to improve your reading skills. You will get to know reading strategies and apply them to simple everyday texts. The diverse topics of the course will prepare you for your life in Germany and especially your everyday life at the university and on campus.

What can you learn in this course?

This course will provide you with reading comprehension skills. The teaching of reading comprehension strategies will help you to develop your reading skills. You will learn about different types of texts and will be able to access and understand them largely independently. This will help you to cope well in your life in Germany and at the university campus. At the end of the course you will be able to extract important information from simple reading texts from everyday life and the university and will be well prepared for your everyday life in Germany.

Outline

The course is divided into 8 chapters. In the first chapter, different reading styles are introduced and explained, but in addition, reading strategies are already taught. Chapters 2-7 focus on the introduction and application of various reading strategies in different types of texts. Chapter 8 is an optional training unit, in which the previously learned strategies for reading different types of texts can be consolidated.

Dr. Thomas Stahl heads the Center for Language and Communication at the University of Regensburg. He is interested in topics related to language didactics and deals particularly with questions of multilingual didactics and assessment in a foreign language context.

The course is aimed at all learners of German who would like to improve their reading skills at level A1.2. Prerequisite for the course ist the completed German language level A1.1

Confirmation of Participation

No ECTS points or grades will be awarded in this course, but you can download a confirmation of participation as soon as you have passed at least 60 percent of all online self-tests included in the course. In addition, you can earn up to seven badges in this course.
